In my experience, through the years I have picked up a lot of tricks from different SEO’s. One of the tricks that I found to be very interesting was told to me a couple years back. This trick explained how to gather a whole list of sites that are in your niche and find out if they are selling sponsored positions on their site.
Now, just a little disclaimer. I am not telling anyone to go out and buy links nor am I saying whether I condone this tactic or not, I am just stating an interesting trick that I thought my readers would find pretty cool. Also this gives you guys a little hands on training with using search operators. Now that, that is out of the way lets move on.
First you must come up with a list in your head. This list will include every single thing that you can think of that has to do with a webmaster asking for money for a link. My list would include the following:
Sponsor
Sponsor my blog
Sponsor my site
Sponsor our site
Sponsor our blog
Sponsor us
Add your link
I can keep typing these out all day but that will take half the fun out of making your own list.
Okay so now that we have our list lets head over to Google. We are going to assume that I am looking for sites that relate to jewelry. I am going to type into the search field:
“Add your link” intitle:jewelry
I will then begin my search. Here is a screen shot of what pulls up.
As you can see this is a link builders dream. This query will pull every site that contains jewelry in the title and has “add your link” on the page. Now this query alone should take you some time to get through. I would suggest scanning the first 2 pages for possible links and saving them in a notepad to reference and possibly obtain links from them later.
Now that we have finished that query we will move on to the next one. Which in this example will be “sponsor us”. So, again go to the search bar and type in::
“sponsor us” intitle:jewelry
You will continue to do this until you have every single phrase that you have come up with finished off. Now we are not done yet, just because you searched jewelry in your title doesn’t mean you have to stop here. Look for words that relate to jewelry and make a list for that also. For example jeweler. Now I will start all over again with the following:
“Add your link” intitle:jeweler
As you can see this list has the possibility to be endless. As long as you keep finding words that relate to your topic you can find people selling, trading or just giving away free links.
Well that’s all for this tutorial. Again I must state that buying links is against Google’s guidelines and can possibly get you banned. I am not writing this so that people can go on a link buying spree, I am writing it because I feel that some of my more experienced SEO’s will find this very interesting and some of my not so experienced SEO’s will have the opportunity to learn about the full benefits of search. SEO is not all about buying, trading, obtaining links and re writing content, it’s about a whole lot more and knowing how to search is definitely a healthy portion of it.
